Meet Isha Sabharwal, The Woman Helping South Surrey Sleep Better, Naturally

I thought I understood bedding before sitting down with Isha Sabharwal.

I was wrong.

What started as a conversation about sheets and mattresses somehow turned into a fascinating deep dive into sleep health, plastics, eczema, hormones, stress, recovery, and why so many of us are unknowingly sleeping in environments that may actually be hurting our health instead of helping it.

And honestly, after this interview, I don’t think I’ll ever look at cheap sheets the same way again.

Isha is the founder of Nest Essentials, a Canadian-owned sleep and wellness store located in Morgan Crossing in South Surrey. Her mission is simple, but surprisingly overlooked:

Help people create healthier sleep environments using high-quality, natural products without filling their homes with plastics and synthetic materials.

Seems obvious once someone says it out loud.

But like most people, I had never really thought deeply about what my bedding was actually made of.

Isha explained that many sheets people buy from big box stores contain polyester blends, even when the marketing makes them seem premium or natural. The reason is simple. Polyester is cheap.

The problem?

Polyester is essentially plastic.

And when she said that, I kind of froze for a second thinking… wait a minute.

We spend roughly eight hours every single night wrapped in this stuff.

That was the moment this conversation shifted from “home decor” into something much bigger.

One of the most interesting things Isha unpacked was how synthetic fabrics can trap heat, reduce airflow, aggravate eczema, irritate sensitive skin, and disrupt overall sleep quality without people even realizing it.

As she put it:

“Sleep is not just about comfort. It’s a health tool.”

That line stuck with me.

Because she’s right.

We spend so much time focusing on workouts, supplements, productivity hacks, and healthy eating while completely ignoring the environment we spend one-third of our lives in.

Meanwhile, poor sleep impacts everything.

Mood.

Recovery.

Focus.

Stress.

Patience.

Energy.

Even how we show up for our kids and relationships.

And Isha sees it firsthand every day.

At Nest Essentials, she works with families trying to improve sleep quality naturally through better bedding, supportive mattresses, natural fabrics, and healthier sleep setups.

What I appreciated most about her approach is that it never felt salesy or extreme.

There was no “you need to replace everything in your house tomorrow” energy.

In fact, her advice was the exact opposite.

Start small.

Maybe it’s better sheets first.

Then pillows.

Then a duvet cover.

Maybe eventually a mattress.

One step at a time.

And honestly, her logic made a lot of sense.

Cheap bedding tends to wear out quickly, pill after a few washes, trap heat, and eventually need replacing again and again anyway.

As she said during the interview:

“If you buy cheap, then you keep on buying it again and again and again.”

That really hit home because we’ve all done it.

Buy the cheaper version.

Replace it.

Buy it again.

Replace it again.

Meanwhile, the higher-quality option would have probably lasted years longer.

One of the most powerful parts of the conversation was hearing how personal this mission became for Isha.

She shared stories about customers struggling with eczema and skin irritation, including her own daughter, who dealt with eczema when she was younger.

Through changes like switching to natural cotton and linen bedding, using healthier materials, and creating a better sleep environment overall, they saw massive improvements.

And it wasn’t just isolated cases.

Isha talked about families coming into the store after years of dealing with skin issues, overheating at night, or poor sleep quality, only to realize the materials they were sleeping on every night were part of the problem.

Honestly, it’s one of those things you don’t think about until someone connects the dots for you.

Another thing I really respected was how committed she is to supporting Canadian-made products and businesses.

Nest Essentials works with suppliers across Canada and focuses heavily on Canadian-made bedding, mattresses, baby products, and wellness-focused sleep products.

You can genuinely feel how much pride she has in both the products and the community she serves.

As an immigrant to Canada, she spoke openly about how welcomed she felt by the South Surrey community and how important it was for her to give back by building a business centered around quality, health, and care.

And honestly, that warmth comes through immediately when you talk to her.

One moment that made me laugh was when she explained that she often tells young couples to prioritize the mattress before the bed frame.

Which sounds funny until you realize how backwards most of us shop.

We’ll spend thousands on the beautiful bed frame because it looks good on Instagram… then cheap out on the thing we actually sleep on every single night.

Her point was simple:

You sleep on the mattress.

Not the bed frame.

It perfectly summed up her whole philosophy. Less about appearances. More about long-term health and quality.

By the end of our conversation, I realized this interview really wasn’t about bedding at all.

It was about how the little things in our environment quietly shape how we feel every day.

Better sleep affects everything.

And sometimes improving your health starts with something as simple as what you’re sleeping on.
