Meet Dr. Garret Kusch, The Mind Behind Trinity: Health by Design
Every once in a while, you sit down with someone expecting a conversation about health… and somehow end up questioning half the things you thought you knew about the human body.
That was my experience sitting down with Dr. Garret Kusch.
Now, technically speaking, Garret is a chiropractor. He’s also one of the founders of Performance Integrated Health, a multidisciplinary clinic that includes chiropractic care, massage therapy, acupuncture, naturopathic medicine, and more.
But honestly, “chiropractor” feels like way too small a label for what he’s actually built.
Because what Garret is really focused on now is something much bigger.
It’s called Trinity: Health by Design, a wellness system built around three core pillars: movement, nutrition, and mindset.
And after hearing the story behind it, the whole thing started making way too much sense.
What stood out immediately during our conversation was that Trinity didn’t come from some business plan or marketing brainstorm. It came from frustration.
Garret had spent years helping people with pain, injuries, and chronic issues, while also dealing with his own severe back pain despite being a former professional soccer player and national-level athlete.
He had access to elite practitioners. He was already deep in the health world. Yet he still found himself waking up one day barely able to move.
That became the turning point.
Instead of accepting pain as “normal,” he started asking a much bigger question:
Why are so many people breaking down in the first place?
That question eventually became the foundation of Trinity: Health by Design.
The first pillar is movement.
Garret explained that his breakthrough came while watching people in the gym perform deadlifts and squats with perfect form, then immediately abandoning those same mechanics in everyday life.
As he described it, trainers constantly tell people to use “good form” to avoid injury. So why would we only move properly for one hour at the gym, then spend the other 23 hours moving poorly?
That realization changed everything for him.
He began studying how the body was actually designed to move, not just during workouts, but during daily life. According to Garret, when movement patterns improve, stress on the body decreases dramatically.
And in his own case?
His chronic back pain disappeared.
Not temporarily. Completely.
The second pillar of Trinity is mindset, and honestly, this part of the conversation got deep fast.
Garret spoke openly about going through personal struggles despite appearing successful on paper. Professional athlete. Entrepreneur. Doctor. Business owner. Dad.
All the things society tells us are supposed to equal fulfillment.
Yet internally, something still felt off.
That led him into studying stress, psychology, identity, and human behavior. The more he explored it, the more he realized how many people are unknowingly living in a constant state of stress response.
One quote from the interview really stuck with me:
“Stress is nothing more than a response to a real or perceived threat.”
And once he said that, I started realizing how many of us live that way every day.
Emails. Deadlines. Financial pressure. Constant notifications. Social media. Lack of sleep. Watching the Canucks in a close playoff game.
Okay, maybe that last one really is stressful.
But Garret’s point was that when our mindset stays trapped in survival mode long enough, the body eventually pays the price physically too.
Which brings us to the third pillar of Trinity: nutrition.
This wasn’t a conversation about trendy diets or six-week challenges.
In fact, Garret openly admitted he used to avoid the nutrition conversation because the industry felt overly complicated and filled with gimmicks.
What changed everything for him was approaching food through the same lens as movement and mindset:
How was the body actually designed to function?
That eventually led him toward a metabolic nutrition system based around personalized blood chemistry and inflammatory responses.
Now look, I’ll be honest. I’m naturally skeptical anytime someone starts talking about transformational health programs. We’ve all seen enough shirtless influencers standing beside rented supercars telling us celery juice changed their lives.
This felt different.
Garret broke things down in a way that was surprisingly practical and easy to understand.
One example that really stuck with me was his explanation of constant snacking.
According to him, many people spend their entire day keeping insulin elevated by continuously eating small meals, snacks, coffees, and sugary drinks. The body never gets a chance to properly reset, repair, or shift into fat-burning mode.
Meanwhile, Trinity simplifies things dramatically.
Three balanced meals a day. Water between meals. Give the body time to recover and regulate itself properly.
Simple.
But the results he experienced personally were massive.
Around age 50, Garret lost nearly 20 pounds, significantly reduced inflammation, and even resolved a chronic Achilles tendon issue that had lingered for over a year despite extensive treatment.
What I appreciated most though was that Trinity never came across as extreme.
This wasn’t about perfection.
It wasn’t about punishment.
It wasn’t about pretending you’ll never eat pizza again.
It was about understanding how your body works and reducing unnecessary stress across all three pillars: physical, biochemical, and psychological.
That’s really the heart of Trinity: Health by Design.
Helping people return to the way the body was designed to function.
And honestly, after sitting through this conversation, I can see why the program is resonating with so many people right now.
