The Best of White Rock: Dr. Garret Kusch on Health, Healing, and Living Without Back Pain
Every once in a while, you meet someone who completely flips the script on how you think about health. For me, Dr. Garret Kusch is one of those people.
Now, you might recognize his name. Before becoming a highly respected chiropractor and health coach, Garret was a professional soccer player in Europe. But like many athletes, his career was cut short—not because he lost his touch on the field, but because of something far more frustrating: back pain. The kind of pain that drops you to the ground mid-practice and leaves you questioning what’s next.
At just 25, Garret found himself with two herniated discs, arthritis, and degenerative disc disease. Not exactly the news you want when you’re supposed to be in your prime. He rehabbed, played through it, and kept pushing forward—but the cycle repeated. Stretch wrong, move wrong, and suddenly he was stuck in bed for weeks. By 28, he had to retire.
But here’s the thing: instead of letting that be the end of his story, Garret turned it into the beginning of a new one. He went back to school, became a chiropractor, and eventually co-founded Performance Integrated Health in Surrey, BC—a clinic that brings together chiropractic, physio, massage, acupuncture, naturopathy, nutrition, and more under one roof.
What stood out to me most in our conversation wasn’t just his story, but his philosophy. He told me, “I’m the chiropractor that never wants to see you again.” And he meant it. His goal isn’t to have patients on a revolving door of treatments forever. It’s to get people moving, eating, and thinking the way the body was designed—so they don’t need constant fixes in the first place.
Garret explained it with one of his favorite analogies: your body is like a Ferrari. You can take it off-road if you want, but it’s not built for that. Eventually, things start breaking down. And sure, a mechanic (or a chiropractor) can patch it up, but if you keep driving it off-road, you’ll keep ending up in the shop. His mission is to teach people how to “drive” their bodies the right way—through posture, mechanics, mindset, and nutrition—so they can finally break free from chronic pain.
He’s also an author, having written a book that came together in just six weeks once the lightbulb went off. His discovery? The secret wasn’t some exotic exercise routine or magical stretch. It was simple: posture and mechanics. He tested it on himself, and within two weeks, his back pain was gone—for good. He hasn’t had pain in over a decade.
Talking with Garret, you quickly realize he’s not about quick fixes or flashy trends. He’s about simple, science-backed changes that actually work—and he lives what he teaches.
